摘要：

The remit of Task Group 5.10 within Commission 5 has been to develop a framework for establishing and documenting the key characteristics that determine the initial design service life of a structure. Moreover once in service utilising the findings of routine in-service inspections, scheduled or unscheduled maintenance activities and any prescribed interventions will contribute to determining the remaining service life of structures. Entitled Birth and Re-Birth Certificates this simple concept is proposed by the task group to be a key component within a structure owner's inventory that may well form the basic building blocks within a Structures Asset Management System. This paper outlines the concepts developed to afford through life management of a given structure or structural component and the work underway by the commission task group.
