Laparoscopic colorectal surgery - technical tips. How to do it?

Laparoscopic colonic resection is a viable technique. The same type of resection as at open surgery can be accomplished with minimum patient morbidity. There is a long learning curve involved with these procedures but once experience is gained, the operating times approach those of comparable open procedures. There should be no contention with the performance of a laparoscopic procedure for benign disease. Laparoscopic procedures for colorectal malignancy should only be performed at present within the context of a trial until there is evidence of improved patient outcomes.
