摘要
We investigate whether the relation between the defect and flap size could influence the outcome in 42 patients who underwent reconstructive surgery after head and neck cancer resection. The ratio of the volume of the transplanted tissue to that of the defect was calculated as the volume ratio. Postoperative complications (abscess or fistula), eating ability and speaking ability were checked. No significant relationship was found between the volume ratio and the occurrence of postoperative complications. From our present results, we recommend volume ratios of about 1.0 for partial glossectomy, at least 1.4 for the hemiglossectomy, about 1.5 for subtotal glossectomy, and at least 1.5 for middle pharynx tumor resection.
