Surgical management of pediatric hematologic disorders

Hemolytic uremic syndrome, Henoch-Schonlein purpura, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, hereditary spherocytosis, and sickle cell disease are hematologic diseases that have important surgical implications. This article provides a brief literature review of the current understanding of the pathophysiology of these disorders and the authors' recommendations for their surgical management.
