On the deformed tooth contact analysis for forged bevel gear modification

Currently, the forging process is widely used for the mass production of bevel gear with advantages of high efficiency and low cost. Due to the complicated deformed mechanism, however, surface deviation is theoretically hard to be predicted, resulting in low accuracy and perished meshing performance. Focusing on this, the paper proposes a deformed tooth contact analysis (DTCA) to predict the tooth contact and correct the tooth surface for forged bevel gear. With DTCA, tooth deformation is obtained through surface deviation measurement of un-modified forged gear; tooth contact analysis is conducted with an ease-off method; and tooth surface correction is obtained by modification of basic generator. Finally, a forged gear pair with satisfying contact pattern is fabricated through the developed DTCA computerized system, proving validity of the method. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
