摘要
The Integrated Math and Science Scholars (iMASS) program was developed to support student retention and success in STEM disciplines over the last 6 years. Lee University faculty from 4 different disciplines and a variety of university personnel worked to support 79 students throughout the life of the grant with an emphasis on at risk students including first generation, females, and minority students. It was hypothesized that creating an integrated curriculum for these students and a sense of community through a seminar course we would be able to support and retain more of these students within STEM disciplines. Through innovative curriculum, a weekly seminar course, intentional mentoring, co-curricular trips, community building activities, and national conference attendance and participation students were given tools and resources to develop professionally. Of the 79 participating students, 35 received scholarships and 44 alternates and associates participated without funding. 61 of the students were retained in STEM at Lee. 32 (91.4%) of the students receiving scholarships were retained in STEM at Lee. The program success also is reflected in some of the larger impacts on the culture of these departments. © FASEB.
