The phytochemical investigation of the methanol extract from the twigs of Spiraea prunifolia var. simpliciflora (Rosaceae) using column chromatography led to the isolation of a new phenol glycoside, 1-O-(E)-caffeoyl-2-O-p-(E)-coumaroyl-beta-d-glucopyranose (1), together with 16 known phenolic compounds (2-17). The structure of this new compound was elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data including 1D, 2D nuclear magnetic resonance and HR-FAB-MS data. The isolated compounds were tested for cytotoxicity against four human tumor cell lines in vitro using the sulforhodamine B bioassay.
