An Android Agricultural Commodity Price Information Application by Utilizing RESTful Web Service

Commodities are unprocessed material that can be traded. Therefore price is very important in trading commodities and can be a decisive factor in buying and selling commodities. Agricultural commodities are commodities normally found and traded in Aceh province. The agricultural information price is collected, processed and disseminated to public through agricultural market information system. Previous work done by researchers had developed a web-based agricultural commodity price information system for Aceh region which was named KomoditiAceh. User can access KomoditiAceh by using major web browser in computer. But the display in smartphone is not in best view. Thus this research developed an Android version of KomoditiAceh by utilizing RESTful Web service. There are 5 Web service methods, namely getCommodities(), getAllKomoditi(), getKomoditiByKab(), getKomoditiSearching(), getKomoditiByTanggal(). The KomoditiAceh Android version only uses HTTP GET method because the current Android application is only used to view agricultural commodity price information. The application can be used to view all commodities prices, view commodities prices by district, view price comparison graph and search or browse commodities in Aceh province. The usability of KomoditiAceh application was analyzed by adapting USE questionnaire. For this research, 50 people were chosen randomly for sample. The sample was divided to 4 categories based on work, they are 15 farmers, 15 traders, 10 buyers and 10 general. USE questionnaire uses 3 categories, namely Usefulness, Satisfaction and Ease of use. For each category, users agree that the application is useful and satisfying users' need. Users also strongly agree that the application is easy to use. The overall average for all categories is 4.17 which means users agree that the KomoditiAceh Android version is usable and can be implemented to disseminate commodities price information in Aceh province.
