摘要
The size-segregation pattern was determined for two nearly binary mixtures (size ratio 2:1 and 5.7:1) of equal weight (1:1) granulated sugar under funnel flow and mass flow conditions. For funnel flow condition, the mixtures exhibited a distinctly fines-predominant flow stream during initial discharge and a coarse-predominant flow stream during the remainder of the discharge. Both mixtures in the mass flow bin tended to stay near and fluctuate about the ideal ratio of one. Statistical analysis (0.05 level of significance) confined that an increase in segregation occurs during funnel flow-type when compared to mass flow-type. For both flow-types, the segregation was more pronounced in the 2:1 than the 5.7:1 mixture. The tendency for increased segregation to occur in the 2:1 than the 5.7:1 particle size ratio mixture of equal weight fraction fine and coarse particles is corroborated by Arteaga and Tuzun's (1990) predictive model.
