摘要
In this research, we explore the problem of caching in 5G networks. According to different studies, the requests for video contents in cellular networks account for 50% of the requests. Considering such a colossal demand, novel mechanisms are required in emerging 5G networks to cater to these soaring requests. In order to prevent the load on the backhaul network, one approach is to cache frequently accessed contents at the edge of the network. As far as the edge is concerned, caching can be performed at small base station (SBS) or the end-user's machine. The objective is to relieve the backhaul network by enabling the requests to be served from local cache. Different studies have regarded caching as a disruptive technology for 5G network. The paper explores the different strategies proposed for caching in 5G networks. Various caching techniques available in the literature are discussed. Finally, the paper also proposes a novel approach to context aware caching at the edge in 5G networks.
