THE INTEREST OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN BUSINESS EDUCATION

The changes in today's globalized world in advanced economies are, among other things, manifested in changing requirements for the qualification of people working in these economies. Increasing importance is attributed to cross-cutting skills, including entrepreneurial skills gained during entrepreneurial education. In the European Union, entrepreneurship education is considered to be the most profitable investment as it helps people to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes which allow them to achieve easily their own goals or to find a job easier. In Slovakia, the entrepreneurial education is the part of primary and secondary schools curricula since 2009 as an integral part of the compulsory subject Civic education. In addition, the company Junior Achievement Slovensko provides the entrepreneurial education programs for all types of schools. At universities and faculties with an economic focus, the entrepreneurship education is the integral part of study programs, at technical faculties this education is realized only to a limited extent, the most often in the form of one compulsory or compulsory elective or selective subject during bachelor study. Some faculties offer to their students also other subjects with an economic-managerial focus with a closer focus on business, costs, economy and management or financial literacy. However, several technological faculties gradually restrict the entrepreneurial education and economic-managerial subjects due to the lack of students' interest. The aim of the paper was to investigate whether the above mentioned fact about the disinterest of students in entrepreneurial education was true. Investigation was based on a survey of students' opinions. There were students of one faculty of Slovak University of Technology. The survey showed that students of the University of Technology are interested in entrepreneurial education and they are also interested in basic economic skills. The majority of our respondents would be interested in doing business in the future, but they do not have enough information yet. They would welcome the entrepreneurial education in (engineering) masters study thus at the end of study at university.
