A NURSING EDUCATION MODEL FOR ENHANCING NURSING COMPETENCIES USING A WIRELESS CLINICAL SIMULATION LABORATORY

The health care industry is undergoing dynamic changes from system reorganization to using information technology across the spectrum of health care delivery. The challenges of health care in the 21st century demand more technological education for graduating nurses. Therefore, nurses need to be academically prepared to respond to new clinical and federal information technology initiatives to provide safe, quality patient care outcomes across various health care settings. New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York, Department of Nursing has responded to meet these patient care concerns by incorporating technology across the nursing curriculum that employs an interactive critical thinking model for nursing education. This paper provides an overview of the initial planning, implementation, and continuing development of this teaching model.
