摘要
The quality of complementary foods in infant nutrition is an important consideration when formulating infant diets. Low quality complementary foods should not be fed to growing children as it may predispose them to adverse health outcomes. The use of traditionally sourced food materials for complementary foods has received commendation from stakeholders especially in resource-poor countries. Abstracts written in English were identified in PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and AJOL using several search strategies based on pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. This systematic review highlighted the use of different materials sourced locally in Nigeria in the formulation of complementary foods and findings showed that the formulated diets compared favourably with commercially produced complementary diets in terms of nutritional quality and improved health outcomes.(c) 2022 The Author(s).
