Network and Datacenter Resource Orchestration Strategies for Mobile Virtual Networks over Telco Clouds

摘要
Virtualization and cloudification of mobile network functions (MNF) is an attractive solution for a rapid and flexible deployment of mobile networks. However, the support of MNFs in the cloud arises challenges for the efficient utilization of computational resources in datacenters (DCs) and of network resources in the communication network interconnecting the DCs. This paper envisions a unified orchestrator in charge of managing the computational and network resources on-demand. Three orchestration strategies with and without retrial of requests are compared. Simulation results indicate that the strategy balancing the resource utilization achieves the lowest blocking with mild degradation of the latency, compared to the strategies minimizing the latency. Retrial mechanism is an excellent approach for decreasing the blocking probability in latency-tolerant applications.
