Electric power is closely related to population development, and the demand for resources is expected to continue to increase worldwide for the next decades. For its part, technology has made it possible to advance in the search for new systems that allow the use of renewable energies, among which solar energy stands out, as it is a resource available throughout the planet's surface and has great potential for its exploitation. This research work aimed to analyze the prospects for photovoltaic solar energy in Colombia. In the results, as a first measure, a conceptualization of solar energy, the development of photovoltaic panels, and the conditions required for installing this type of electricity generation module were carried out. Next, the main advances at the national level in the theoretical, experimental, and practical achievements of photovoltaic solar energy were described. Finally, the main perspectives that exist in Colombia for the development of these renewable energy generation systems were determined, which will depend on the short and medium-term lack of electrical connection that the rural areas of the country have and secondly on the impact of tax incentives (Law 1715 of 2014) that the National Government has granted to stimulate their implementation at the public and private level.
