摘要
Objectives Gastrointestinal complications and bowel movement disorders are common complications of abdominal surgery. Considering the effects of coffee and the high prevalence of cesarean section operations, this study aimed to assess how coffee consumption affected the motility of the intestines. Methods This was a triple-blind clinical trial study performed on 200 cases of randomly chosen women who had undergone cesarean section in both Akbarabadi and Firouzgar hospitals, and they were randomly divided into two groups. Those in the intervention group received 100 cc of coffee at 8, 1, 2, and 24 h after C/sec surgery, and the control group received 100 cc of warm water at the same time intervals. The bowel movements were then assessed and compared between the two groups. The gathered data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test and Chi-square test and SATA 15TH Ed. Findings Before the intervention, there was no significant difference between the two groups in their demographic and basic variants (P > 0.05). The mean difference between the two groups in terms of variants such as the timing of the bowel sounds restarted post-surgery, the timing of the first post-surgery gas passage, and the timing of the first post-surgery was significant (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in their hospitalization lengths (P = 0.10). Conclusion Because of the effects of coffee on the improvement of bowel movements in the post-cesarean section, we recommend administering coffee to these patients.
