The thought of sociologist Margaret Archer, beyond the issue of reflexivity, is little disseminated in Brazil, despite the existence of publications on Critical Realism in the country, a perspective that certainly reverberated in the author's thought. For this reason, this article seeks to detail the theoretical logic proposed by Archer about the relationship between agency, structure and culture over time. To this end, we have established a set of specific objectives, namely: to highlight the different phases of the author's thought the so-called realist dualism phase; to explore in detail the operationalization of her morphogenetic approach. Finally, to present the main criticisms of its operationalization, collaborating to solve an existing gap regarding the assimilation of his thought in the Brazilian context. As a conclusion, it will also be indicated that the temporal dimension, so central in the author's enterprise, still needs to be better problematized, since it has inaccuracies.
