Die weltweite Zahl von Diabetes-Fallen unter Erwachsenen ist zwischen 1980 und 2021 von 108 Millionen auf 537 Millionen angestiegen. Dies wurde begleitet von einer ebenfalls massiven Zunahme der Adipositas. M. O'Hearn et al. haben fur 184 Lander die Effekte von 11 Ernahrungsfaktoren auf die Inzidenz des Typ-2-Diabetes nachgezeichnet. Sie konzentrierten sich dabei auf die Zeitspanne zwischen 1990 und 2018.
