摘要
The Mesozoic genus Tipunia Krzeminski and Ansorge, 1995 is known only from limited fossil material from the Jurassic and Cretaceous. This genus has long been controversial as to its taxonomic affiliation. It was originally described in the family Limoniidae but was recently transferred to the family Tipulidae. The new well-preserved specimens studied in the present work from the Upper Jurassic Karatau outcrop of Kazakhstan and from the Lower Cretaceous of Dorset, UK greatly clarifies our knowledge of this poorly recognised genus as well as shedding light on the evolution of Tipulomorpha. The work includes the description of two new species: T. completa sp. nov. and T. kania sp. nov. and a key to all the species from this genus. (c) 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
