Citizenship education is an issue that has gained interest in today's societies and mainly in educatio-nal institutions, however, citizenship education in the political component is approached from the liberal model associated with the possession of certain indi-vidual rights, viewed from a strictly prescriptive and factual point of view, where the citizen-voter occu-pies a preponderant and central place. The purpo-se of this article is to analyze and identify studies on the political component of citizenship education in Colombian schools. As part of the methodology, a search for articles indexed in databases such as SCOPUS, SCIELO, DIALNET, among others, was carried out, from which 20 articles published in the last 5 years were selected. It is concluded that, in or-der to strengthen citizenship education in its political component, it is necessary to start from the recog-nition of local experiences and knowledge, with the purpose of developing social skills that allow partici-pation in the construction of peaceful, inclusive and democratic societies.
