摘要
Kerion is a subtype of tinea capitis with a severe inflammatory response, requiring early diagnosis to prevent secondary bacterial infection, folliculitis and permanent alopecia. Oral antifungal drugs are considered the firstline treatment for tinea capitis; however, drugs therapy is challenged by the long treatment duration, side effects, and drug resistance. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been widely used to treat dermatomycosis and has shown significant efficacy in recent years. We report the case of a girl who presented with refractory severe kerion following unregulated treatment and insensitivity to itraconazole; however, she was cured with 5-aminolevulinic acid-PDT. The case showed that PDT is a potentially promising alternative treatment for cutaneous fungal infections.
