Nationalism is based on the construction of national identity. This construction process takes place with the distinction between us and the other, and the immigrants constitute the other of the national identity. In this framework, migration comes to the forefront as a security issue, and the perception of threat created by immigrants raises nationalism. On the other hand, immigrants can continue their nationalism through diasporas wherever they go. Ethnic return migrations can be seen as a founding force of nationalism. As a result, immigration has an important function in terms of both a challenge and producing it in terms of nationalism.
