THE SOVIET UNION IN THE POLICY OF PROMETHEISM IN POLAND 20s - 30s OF THE XX CENTURY

Thus, the concept of Prometheism was formed in the traditions of the noble Commonwealth during the interwar period among the supporters of the political line of J. Pilsudski. The creators of Prometheism believed that with the formation of the USSR, the essence of Russian imperialism has not changed. They hoped that national liberation movements would cause the inevitable collapse of the Soviet Union and strongly supported separatist centrifugal tendencies in its national republics. With its foreign policy vector, the concept of Prometheism was aimed at the dismemberment of the Soviet Union on national grounds and the creation on its basis of a federation of democratic states under the auspices of Poland. Anti-Russian, anti-Soviet, and anti-communist orientations also became components of Prometheus' ideology. In the interwar period, the Prometheus organization was at the forefront of Poland's eastern policy aimed at integrating the peoples of the Black Sea-Baltic region. Behind the scenes of the society were Polish special services, which secretly developed plans to use the national liberation movements of non-Russian peoples of the USSR. The goal of implementing the concept of Prometheism was to dismember the Soviet Union on a national basis and build a Greater Poland on its "ruins" based on a federation with Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Crimea, and other republics. A strategic mistake of Promethean theorists was to believe in the internal weakness of the USSR. The beginning of the World War II suspended the implementation of Poland's Prometheus plans.
