Simulation of alcohol use disorder: a case report

Approximately half of individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) may experience Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome (AWS) when they reduce or cease alcohol consumption. Detoxification treatment is administered for AUD in primary care settings. However, some individuals presenting to psychiatric clinics may exhibit a medical condition known as simulation or malingering, where they engage in deceptive behavior that makes it challenging to recognize their actual state objectively. In this case presentation, we describe the clinical follow-up and treatment process of a male patient admitted to the Alcohol and Substance Dependency Treatment Center (ASDTC) clinic diagnosed with alcohol use disorder who was later discharged with a simulation diagnosis.
