Ultrafine high-entropy alloy nanoparticles for extremely superior electrocatalytic methanol oxidation

摘要
To develop highly efficient catalysts with low Pt content for electrocatalytic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) is meaningful yet still challenged. Here, PtPdCdZnCo ultrafine high-entropy alloy (uf-HEA) nanoparticles (similar to 2.6 nm) were achieved by a facile one-pot chemical synthesis. As MOR catalyst, the uf-HEA displays ultrahigh mass activity of 2.86 and 11.1 A mg(Pt)(-1) in acidic and alkaline environments, respectively. That is the best acidic MOR catalyst so far by comparing with other reported Pt-based catalysts. Study suggests the outstanding MOR activity is attributed to the weakened reaction intermediates adsorption on uf-HEA surface.
