High angular stability and polarization insensitive optically transparent bandpass frequency selective surface based on micro copper mesh

摘要
Frequency selective surfaces (FSSs), especially optically transparent FSSs (OT-FSSs), are significantly used in civil and military fields. This paper proposed an OT-FSS with high angular stability and polarization insensitivity. Non-resonant Jesus-cross and its complementary pattern were adopted to realize the FSS working at 2.17-4.16 GHz with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 62.9%. Optical transparency was achieved by gridding the unit cells. A prototype was fabricated using the laser etching process, then experiments were conducted, and the experimental results were consistent with the simulation results. Furthermore, the OT-FSS operated at 2.07-4.23 GHz with a 5.7% increase in FBW and covered almost the entire S-band of microwave frequencies. Most significantly, the insertion loss of the proposed OT-FSS was only 0.05 dB, and the passband performance is remarkable. The OT-FSS proposed herein provided potential solutions to achieve high compatibility with wideband frequency selective, optical transparency, and large-angle incidence, thus enabling a wide range of applications in electromagnetic compatible facilities and electromagnetic pollution reduction.
