摘要
The construction of road tunnels is one of the most adequate solutions when road sec-tions are steep and brings multiple environmental and economic benefits. The topic of road tunnel safety and incident analysis is still under development in the field of traffic engineering. The main goal of this paper is to present the results of statistical analyses conducted over Brazilian road traffic accidents data in tunnel sections, comparing them with the results obtained for open sections at the same roadway, more specifically in BR-101 in Santa Catarina. It is intended that the information can provide a solid basis to foster and justify traffic solutions which may bring greater safety to the users, keeping in mind also the comparison with international results.
