摘要
Infant formula is an instant replacer to breastfeeding; it delivers a substantial amount of energy and nutrients for the infants growth and other metabolic activities. In recent years infant formula is extensively exploited throughout the globe where the provision of mother milk is insufficient, and such formulae are proven to be associated with some short and long-term neonatal health issues. To cope with these challenges, nutritionists and researchers are using different methods and approaches to formulate a risk-free infant formula. In this review, we summarized the risks related to infant formula and current methods and knowledge on the formulation of a risk-free formula, especially the techniques and incorporation of those components that can reduce neonatal health problems. This manuscript will help disseminate current knowledge to food scientists and nutritionists and help design a risk-free formula.
