In his 1930 doctoral thesis-L'Invention-Gaston Bouthoul distinguishes between technical and moral inventions, promotes an individualistic explanation of inventions based on the personality of the inventor, and contributes to the study of the inventive mental process. This article focuses in particular on the context, the sources, and the early reception of Bouthoul's book.
