摘要
Eco-friendly textile processing is gaining fame and importance in recent years by considering environmental pollution and sustainability issues. Several researchers tried various natural pigments to dye textile fibers. Nyctanthes Arbortristis is a natural pigment with pharmaceutical applications such as antibacterial, antioxidant, anticancer, antifungal, antipyretic and antiinflammatory properties. The Nyctanthes Arbortristis, also called coral jasmine, is a natural flower pigment that can be used to dye textile fibers like cotton, wool and silk with the help of metallic or bio-mordants. The novelty of this research aims to dye pineapple fabric with coral jasmine natural dye using Acacia Nilotica (babul bark) as a bio-mordant. The dyed fabric was evaluated for wash, dry and wet rubbing fastness, anti-microbial activity, antioxidant properties and ultraviolet protection, and their durability against successive launderings by standard methods. The fastness, color strength and functional properties of dyed pineapple fabric have been characterized by colorimetric analysis, K/S Vs. wavelength spectra of dyed samples, FTIR analysis and UV-Visible spectroscopic analysis of mordant and dye extracts. The results showed increased color yield (K/S) with increasing concentrations of babul bark and coral jasmine. Good to excellent wash and rubbing fastness properties were obtained. Fabric sample with the highest concentration of dye and mordant (5% owf babul bark and 20% owf coral jasmine) has displayed antibacterial activity up to 98.23%, antioxidant activity up to 99.37% and excellent ultraviolet protection. There is no significant loss in functionality observed even after 20 LCs. And thus, the sustainable and novel functional coloration of pineapple was explored.
