The length of the production chain and the upgrading of the manufacturing industry

摘要：
Based on the combined data of "China Industrial Enterprise Database", "China Enterprise Patent Application Database", "China Customs Import and Export Database", and "UIBE GVC Indicators" from 2000 to 2013, this paper analyzes the impact of the length of the production chain on the upgrading of the manufacturing industry. The study found that increasing the length of the production chain can significantly promote the improvement of the product quality of Chinese export enterprises. After accounting for endogeneity issues, the results remain robust. Further, this paper finds that the size of company is an important mechanism for the length of the production chain to promote the quality of the export products of the enterprise.
