摘要
We have investigated the real-time forecasting method for meteorological tsunamis. Forecasting meteorological tsunamis is difficult because, unlike storm surges, tsunamis suddenly strike in clear and calm ocean. Although it is becoming clear that the source mechanism is the atmospheric pressure changes in the far field, the generation and propagation processes have not been verified because it is difficult to observe the offshore region. In Japan, Abiki in the Kyushu region has been known for a long time. On the other hand, a meteorological tsunami caused by an atmospheric pressure wave generated by the huge eruption near the Tonga Islands in January 2022 was observed in Japan. In this paper, we report on the current status of studies for the real-time forcast method for meteorological tsunamis, using the Tongan volcano eruption tsunami as an example.
