摘要
A telescope coronagraph is an instrument used to occlude starlight in order to observe exoplanets orbiting the star in question. In this paper, the optimal design of coronagraph focal plane mask (FPM) is considered. The coronagraph system is first formulated as an integral equation, which is then discretized with the method of moments. This results in a constrained least squares problem to be solved numerically. Several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the optimal designs of the FPMs in various cases and the corresponding light extinction performances.
