摘要
The objective was to study potential ocular hypotensive effect for topical amlodipine 0.5% eye drop. Twenty albino rabbits (aged 4-6 months) with weight ranged from 2-2.5 kg divided into two groups; control group in which the animals given induction dextrose 5% IV infusion with topical vehicle eye drop and amlodipine group in which the animals given induction dextrose 5% IV infusion with topi-cal vehicle eye drop contain 0.5% amlodipine. An average of ten IOP measurements was performed at zero,15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 135, 150 and 165 min after amlodipine eye drop and control vehicle applica-tion with schiotz tonometer after 60 s of application one drop of lignocaine hydrochloride eye drop. Am-lodipine (0.5%) topical application prior to therapy significantly (p < 0.001) restricts the rise in IOP in group 2 (amlodipine group) compared to control group. A significant preventative impact of the topical application of amlodipine (0.5%) is also observed as compared to the control group (p<0.001). Topical amlodipine 0.5% eye drop showed a protective and ocular hypotensive effect that can be considered as a promising possible future drug for treatment of glaucoma.
