MUSIC EDUCATION, STATUS OF THE ISSUE AND PERSPECTIVES FOR AN EDUCATIONAL CHANGE

摘要
We present the result of an investigation on the predominant orientations in the teaching and learning of music and its implementation in Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education in public schools and institutes of Catalonia with regard to the use of musical resources, the time allocated to this discipline, the space where the sessions take place and the integration of music in the teaching of other curricular fields. The chosen methodology combines qualitative and quantitative perspective: the data is collected through questionnaires with open quantitative evaluation and qualitative questions, sent to general teachers and specialists in music education. Quantitative responses have been treated statistically, and open responses have also been analysed. With this, a status of the issue is drawn and the most peremptory deficits in music education are highlighted. The results show that the disciplinary division of education is not permeable enough, therefore we should move towards a cross-curricular education model that is committed to an interdisciplinary and intermedial artistic education, which hybridizes all languages, both in reception, interpretation and creation. Some causes of this finding are identified and arguments and reflections are provided, with the will to promote an educational change that offers a more malleable conception of music, which allows it to become a key discipline for the promotion of artistic culture and creativity.
