Hydrogen storage performances of La-Sm-Mg-Ni alloy prepared by casting and ball milling

摘要
In this paper, casting and ball milling procedures were used to create the quaternary alloy La7Sm3Mg80Ni10, and the structural evolutions during hydrogen sorption and desorption were investigated and described. According to the findings, ball milling lowers the size of grains and particles while also altering their surface properties. The as-cast alloy absorbs 4 wt% H2 in 118, 67, and 58 s at 473, 533, and 553 K, respectively, whereas the as-milled alloy takes 108, 56, and 50 s. Additionally, the first hydrogen release temperature of the alloys as-cast and asmilled are 553.9 and 547.4 K, respectively. The as-milled and as-cast alloys had absolute values of the dehydrogenation enthalpy change (Delta H) of 77.13 and 76.52 kJ/mol and apparent activation energies for dehydrogenation (Ede) of 80.79 and 78.72 kJ/mol, respectively.
