The article starts a discussion about children's literature, as the action of telling and singing stories. It was necessary to listen to the children for themselves, proposing a qualitative, exploratory and field research, whose objective was to know children's ideas about children's literature and how they relate to the literary universe. The data reveal that the children interviewed have a relationship with works of different textual genres. That said, it is recommended that in addition to storytelling, children can have access to other literary practices, such as: presentation at literary soirees, reading circles or storytelling circles, visits to bookstores, libraries, handling of various literary genres, with the aim of arousing the child's curiosity, but this will require educators and family members to be willing to encourage children's literature as well.
