A Modified Method for Determining the Optical Indicatrix in Monoclinic Crystals Based on Optical Prisms

摘要
Identifying the directions of orthogonal principal optical indicatrix axes is a precondition for applications of optical crystals. For low-symmetrical monoclinic crystals, the investigations and analyses about optical indicatrix in some recent works based on two optical prisms are usually unaccounted for, and some confusion and even mistakes may be caused in practical applications. In this work, we specified the measured procedures, proposed a modified method based on three optical prisms to work out the optical indicatrix in monoclinic crystals succinctly and accurately, and demonstrated this method in monoclinic La2CaB10O19 crystals.
