摘要
CeO2 photocatalysts with and without incorporation of carbon functionalities on their surface were manufactured by a simple hydrothermal method. Carbon modified-CeO2 were found more efficient than bare CeO2 for the removal of acetaldehyde from air under visible light irradiation. Enhancement in acetaldehyde removal was imputed to larger surface area and reduced band gap induced by carbonaceous groups at CeO2 surface. Fine control of precursors' amount produced optimal fraction of carbon functionalities and surface area leading to maximum acetaldehyde removal. Moreover, photocatalytic performance of CeO2 was promoted with lower concentration of acetaldehyde than its higher concentration. With humidity, overall acetaldehyde removal efficiency of CeO2 was decreased yet the acetaldehyde removal via photocatalysis was increased than dry conditions. A very simple and practical strategy for the regeneration of the spent catalyst is also suggested. Furthermore, fixation of sample at Ni-foam rendering its photocatalytic efficiency promised as a potential candidate for air filtration applications.
