THE characteristics of clay minerals are controlled by the characters of weathered mother rock and the weathering environments in source area. The characteristics of clay minerals of the Yellow River should be different from those of the Changjiang River because the characters of mother rock and the weathering environments in the drainage area of the Yellow River are quite different from those in the drainage area of the Changjiang River, so it is important to find a difference between the characteristics of clay minerals of the Yellow River and the
