摘要
This paper attempts to give a brief introduction to the TEFL situation in primary and middle schools of Guangdong Province and then put forward some ideas for a TEFL development plan for the coming five years. The points of view and propositions presented are only the author’s personal opinions.Guangdong Province, located in the south of China, with a comparatively developed culture and economy, is one of the provinces in China whose trade relations with foreign countries can be traced back to a time as early as the Tang Dynasty. Hence, it not only has the country’s most well-known home-towns of overseas Chinese, but also keeps close relations with the outside world and consequently has had a better foundation of foreign language education in the past. Nevertheless, for a long period of time since the founding of the PRC, owing to various reasons, the quality of foreign languages teaching and learning has been very unsatisfactory. The present situation of TEFL is still far from suits the urgent needs of economic and social development today.
