A new method is developed to solve Biot’s con-solidation of a finite soil layer in the cylindrical coordinatesystem.Based on the governing equations of Biot’s con-solidation and the technique of Laplace transform,Fourierexpansions and Hankel transform with respect to timet,coor-dinate θand coordinate r,respectively,a relationship of dis-placements,stresses,excess pore water pressure and flux isestablished between the ground surface (z=0) and an arbi-trary depth z in the Laplace and Hankel transform domain.By referring to proper boundary conditions of the finite soillayer, the solutions for displacements, stresses, excess porewater pressure and flux of any point in the transform domaincan be obtained. The actual solutions in the physical domaincan be acquired by inverting the Laplace and the Hankeltransforms.
