Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) is the first neurokine to be found out for the potency to promote motoneuron survival in vitro and in vivo, and it does play a role in the development and regeneration of the nervous system. CNTF has been found up mainly in the astrocyte and Schwann cell.
