In east China s Zheiiang Province is a small city with a 2,400-year histo-ry. Its name, Shaoxing, is well known as the setting for 20th century mod-ern Chinese writer LuXun’s short story Kong Yiji about an intellectual confounded by the imperial exami-nation systeim.
