Afferent and efferent projections of the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVH) are extensive. By using autoradiography and HRP techniques Ricardo et al. demonstrated that ascending fibres of solitary tract nucleus (SOL) not only arrive at PVH through parabrachial nucleus, but also have a direct pathway projecting to PVH from SOL.
