CHINA'S TOP 10 R&D ACHIEVEMENTS IN 1999

1. The successful launch of China’s first space-ship in preparation for a manned astronautic pro-gram. The spacecraft, named Shenzhou (Spirit Boat),was launched by a new model of Long March rocketfrom the cosmodrome in Jiuquan, Gansu Province.After a soft touchdown in the Inner MongolianAntonomous Region, the spaceship successfullycompleted all its exploration tasks.
