摘要
The Yellow River has a vast catchment area and historically it is the mother river of the Chinese nation. Now it serves as one of the main theatres for the on-going national campaign to develop China’s western hinterland. As most of the landmass covered by the Yellow River Valley is dominated by semi-arid climate, the valley’s water resources are chronically deficient, with per capita availability less than 1/3 of the national average.
