SIGNIFICANCE OF WESTERN BLOT IN DIAGNOSIS OF CYSTICERCOSIS CELLULOSAE

Sodium dodecyl sulphate(SDS)polyacrylamidegradient gel electrophoresis(PAGE)and immunoblotwere used for the diagnosis of patients withcysticercosis cellulosae.26 KD protein band of thewhole Cysticercus antigen showed a high specificity tothe sera from patients with cysticercosis cellulosae andhad no cross reaction with sera from normal controlsand other parasitic diseases including hydatidosis.Thepositive rate of Western blot with 26 KD band was70% and the results showed no significant difference incomparison with those of CFT and ELISA.
