Analysis of the correlation between baseline serum uric acid,urinary albumin/creatinine ratio and cognitive impairment in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective To assess the impact of baseline serum uric acid(SUA) and urinary albumin/creatinine ratio(UACR) on cognitive impairment in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods This prospective cohort study included 1 071 type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) patients who were regularly followed up in Lee’s clinic.Patients were regularly followed up annually with an average of 5 years.The group was divided into cognitive impairment group(CI,n=173)and no significant cognitive impairment group(NCI,n=898) according to the presence or absence of significant cognitive impairment during follow-up.All participants were also divided into three groups according to baseline UACR values:NUA(UACR <30 mg/g),MU A(30≤UACR≤300 mg/g),and LUA(UACR> 300 mg/g).
