This essay responds to Hillary Pimlott's Wars of Position? "Marxism Today," Cultural Politics, and the Remaking of the Left Press, 1979-90. Focusing particularly on the intersection of the party form and the function of party media, the essay contextualizes Pimlott's book and shows the value and usefulness of her study of the journal Marxism Today for contemporary socialist and communist struggle and organization.
